Focus and Scope

MODERATE: Journal of Religious, Education, and Social is an international, double-blind peer-reviewed journal that focuses on religious, educational, and social issues, with a special emphasis on the context of Indonesia. The journal is committed to providing a platform for scholarly work that examines the intersection of religion, education, and social transformation in Indonesia, while remaining open to global perspectives.

The journal invites contributions on a broad range of topics related to religious studies, particularly those that address issues pertinent to Indonesia's diverse religious landscape. Key areas of interest include:

  1. Religious Texts: Articles that explore religious texts—both sacred and secular—are welcome, with particular attention to how these texts are interpreted, translated, and applied in Indonesia. Research may focus on the Bible, the Qur'an, Tripitaka, Veda, and other important religious texts, as well as comparative studies that look at the influence of these texts across different religious traditions in Indonesia.
  2. Religious Faith: The journal welcomes contributions that examine how religious faith shapes both individual and collective identities, with a particular focus on Indonesia. This includes research on the practice, expression, and experience of faith across diverse traditions like Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism, and how faith impacts social behavior, ethics, and community development.
  3. Religious Education: Education is central to the transmission of religious knowledge and values. MODERATE invites research on religious education in Indonesia, including studies on the integration of religious content into the national curriculum, the role of religious schools (e.g., Islamic boarding schools, Christian seminaries), and the pedagogical methods used in teaching religion. The journal also encourages studies on the impact of religious education on societal values, tolerance, and interfaith dialogue.

  4. Religious Service and Pastoral Studies: This area examines the practice of religious service and pastoral care, including how religious leaders serve their communities. Contributions can address the role of pastoral leadership in Indonesia, focusing on issues such as spiritual care, counseling, and the broader social impact of religious services. The journal welcomes research that looks at the intersection of religion, health, and social well-being, particularly in the Indonesian context.

  5. Spirituality in Religion: MODERATE places a special emphasis on religious spirituality, exploring how individuals and communities experience and express their spirituality. This includes studies of spiritual practices, rituals, and personal religious experiences. The journal is interested in research that examines how spirituality contributes to personal growth, social harmony, and religious identity, with particular attention to how these processes unfold in Indonesia’s diverse religious communities.

  6. Interfaith Dialogue and Comparative Religion: Indonesia is known for its religious pluralism, and MODERATE values research that explores the dynamics of interfaith dialogue and comparative religion. Studies that examine the relationships between Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, and other religious traditions in Indonesia are encouraged, particularly those that explore the potential for fostering understanding, tolerance, and cooperation among different religious communities.

The journal seeks to promote research that not only addresses the challenges and opportunities within Indonesia but also contributes to the broader field of religious studies globally. Through its interdisciplinary approach, MODERATE aims to foster a deeper understanding of religion’s role in shaping societies, educational systems, and social structures.
